Classification and functional characteristics of car rearview mirrors

Automotive rearview mirrors are primarily divided into interior rearview mirrors, exterior rearview mirrors, and lower rearview mirrors. Interior rearview mirrors are usually flat mirrors that allow drivers to clearly observe the situation directly behind the vehicle. The image is true to life, with equal size and consistent direction of the object and image, facilitating the judgment of the actual distance and driving status of the vehicle behind. Some interior rearview mirrors have anti-glare functions, which can switch modes at night to weaken the strong light from behind. Exterior rearview mirrors often use convex mirrors (wide-angle mirrors), such as the commonly seen dual-curvature exterior rearview mirrors. The outer large curvature area expands the field of vision, while the inner small curvature area is conducive to judging the distance and speed of the vehicle. They may also be equipped with heating functions to quickly remove water vapor in rainy and snowy weather. Lower rearview mirrors are generally installed under the doors or at the front fenders, using concave mirror design to observe the blind spots on the lower side of the vehicle, such as judging the distance between the vehicle body and surrounding objects when parking or passing through narrow road sections.
